Susan Stevens Crummel Visits BCE!

Published by brushycreeklibrary under Uncategorized

Award-Winning Author Susan Stevens Crummel visited Brushy Creek last Thursday, November 5th, and she gave fabulous presentations to all students PreK through 5th grade!  Her most recent book, Help Me Mr. Mutt: Expert Answers for Dogs with People Problems has been nominated for this year’s Texas Bluebonnet Award!

Thank you, Mrs. Crummel, for entertaining us with several great presentations, and for signing the mountains of books!  We would be happy to welcome you back to Brushy Creek any time you are passing through Round Rock!

PTA Sponsors Barnes & Noble Book Fair This Weekend!

Author Kate DiCamillo (author of Tales of Depereaux, Because of Winn-Dixie, and many more titles) will be in Round Rock on Friday, October 16th speaking at Barnes & Noble La Frontera at 6:30 pm! We’re going to show our BCE pride and encourage our students to wear our Brushy Creek T-shirts to represent during the author visit!

And, it just so happens, that our PTA is sponsoring the Barnes & Noble Book Fair this weekend….. so for all books (or café drinks) you buy this weekend, our library will get a percentage of the profits! All you have to do is either BRING the Barnes & Noble Voucher OR mention Brushy Creek at the cashier!

Our PTA is also sponsoring an “Open Mic” session for students who wish to read any poetry or stories they’ve written from 4-6pm on Saturday. There will be a microphone set up in the café area at Barnes & Noble La Frontera and no RSVP is necessary if you wish to join in on the fun! Groups or individuals are welcome to participate, and the class with the most participants will win a prize, compliments of our PTA! It would be great if all of our students came to Barnes & Noble to read some of their own short pieces in front of a live audience!

If you have any questions regarding the Open Mic Session or any other events at Barnes & Noble this weekend, please contact Melissa Janisheck at president@brushycreekpta.com.

New Books!

Published by brushycreeklibrary under Uncategorized and tagged:

I love getting new books for our library!  It feels like my birthday every time a WatchDog Dad wheels in a heavy box (or more) of books into the library I get so excited!  We received our first shipment of 53 books two weeks and our second shipment of 150 more books and two Playaways arrived last week!  I am happy to share a preview of some of the new books that I just finished processing and are already out on our “New Books” cart!

Cabin Creek Mysteries are a brand new series to our library!  Look for them in the Fiction Section!

The Freaky Facts series is SO FUN!  They are filled with freaky facts about lots of different topics!  We will be getting a total of 10 of these books including the above fun titles!

We also have several new books from the INsiders series!

Batman and Superman are making their debut in CHAPTER books now!  Look for them in F BAT and F SUP!

We have several new picture books and great nonfiction books as well!  Check them out!

Fourth and Fifth Graders:

Did you see the Read It Forward commercial on Broadcast this morning?   If not (or if you just want to watch it again), here it is again below.  If you find a package around school, please follow the directions in the commercial and read the book contained in the package.  After you finish reading the book, follow the instructions inside the front cover and come see me in the library for your reward.  After you receive your reward, then you’ll pass your copy on to a friend for them to read.  Enjoy!

Are you as excited as I am about Read It Forward?  Check out the awesome video below:
