4th grade Technology Showcase

You may have heard that our 4th graders are working hard on a service learning project benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charity of Austin (RMHC).  Over the next few months, they are collecting pull tabs from cans to raise money for this worthy cause.  A group of nine 4th graders met with Mrs. Kupersztoch and Mr. Wolfe for six meetings in December to create three types of advertisements for their project.

One group created an interactive, online poster called a glog.  Their glog is currently featured on the BCE homepage!  Check it out here or by clicking the image below:

One group scripted, starred in, and edited their own movie including these well known characters: The Queen of Hearts, Mario, and Luigi. This video has been aired on our school’s broadcast, but you can check it out below:

Two groups created a voki to add to our website as a reminder for the service learning project.  A voki is similar to an avatar that can talk.  Check them out below:

Our 4th graders are doing an awesome job using technology in their efforts to support the community and raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House.  Nice work!

The Joy of Books

This video is amazing!  I ran across it online and I thought all of our book-loving students would love to see this incredible video!

A team of people in Toronto worked for days and days to film this in a local bookstore.  It kind-of makes you wonder what happens to the books in OUR library when we leave for the day….

Six Flags Six Hour Reading Program

The Six Flags Six Hour Reading Program has begun!  Students in grades K-5 are encouraged to participate in the Six Flags Six-Hour Read to Succeed Program running from January 3rd through February 17th.  Six Flags Across Texas encourages students to read for six hours outside of their regularly assigned reading, and is happy to reward those students with a free ticket to Six Flags Fiesta Texas! BLUE forms will be going home this week to all K-5 students.  Please read the front and back of the form, fill out as directed (including parents’ initials and signature) and return NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17th to your child’s teacher.  The theme park tickets will arrive mid-May for those who participate. Visit the Six Flags Read to Succeed website to read more about this program and get ready to READ, READ, READ!

NEW – PebbleGo Biographies!

Did you know we now have a NEW PebbleGo Database?  I introduced our 1st and 2nd graders to PebbleGo Biographies just before Winter Break, but I also wanted to formally announce it on our Library Website!  A biography is a book about a person; so PebbleGo Biographies features lots of famous, important people!

From this page, click on the BlueJay on the right (—->) and it will take you to the Research Resources page.  Scroll down, click on PebbleGo, and you will see PebbleGo Animals, PebbleGo Earth & Space, and PebbleGo Biographies!

Remember, as with any of our subscription databases, you will need to enter a username and password from home.  If you do not have those passwords, please either e-mail your teacher or Mrs. Kupersztoch to ask for the home access information.  Enjoy!

2011 Speak Up Survey

Speak Up 2011 Survey

Please take a few minutes to participate in the nationwide Speak Up Survey about Education and Technology.  RRISD is encouraging all students, parents, administrators, and campus staff to participate and the deadline is December 23, 2011.  The survey takes less than 10 minutes and we would love to see a strong representation from our RRISD community!  Thank you!  -Mrs. Kupersztoch
